Metal Name Generator

Frequently Asked Questions

Name Generator

What is Metal Name Generator?

Metal Name Generator is an online tool that uses artificial intelligence to generate metal band names, song titles, lyrics, album covers and t-shirt designs. It covers 13 metal subgenres, from death to symphonic, black metal to metalcore.

How many names can I generate?

Without an account, you can generate 5 batches for free. With a verified account, you get 20 generations per day (names + lyrics). Each generation produces 16 names.

What is "Creative Boost" mode?

An advanced generation mode that pushes the AI toward more creative, provocative and unexpected results. Requires an account. You can also refine results with a keyword or word count control.

Can the AI generate lyrics?

Yes. Click the lyrics icon next to a generated song title. The AI composes genre-appropriate lyrics. This feature requires a verified account.

Are generated names unique?

The AI generates original combinations, but we can't guarantee a name doesn't already exist. Always check music platforms and trademark databases before adopting a name for your project.

Album Covers

How does the cover creator work?

Choose a genre, visual style (from 10: illustration, painting, photorealistic, abstract...), mood, and describe your vision. The AI generates an illustration that you customize in the editor: text placement, choice from 44 metal fonts, colors, rotation, shadow, image filters, and export to HD PNG or PSD with separated layers.

Is my first cover really free?

Yes. Your first credit is included with signup. You get a full-resolution HD PNG cover (2048px). PSD export and background download are available with any paid pack. No commitment, no credit card required.

What export formats are available?

HD PNG (2048×2048) — available to all users. Ready for streaming platforms, Bandcamp, social media.
PSD with layers (paid pack) — illustration, band name and album title on separate layers. Opens in Photoshop, Affinity Photo, GIMP or any PSD-compatible editor.
Background only (paid pack) — the raw background without text, for custom use.

How much do covers cost?

After your free cover, packs are:
• 5 covers: €4.99 (€1.00/cover)
• 10 covers: €8.99 (€0.90/cover) — most popular
• 25 covers: €19.99 (€0.80/cover)
Commercial use included in all packs.

Can I use covers for commercial projects?

Yes. All generated covers (free or paid) can be used for music releases, merchandising and promotion. You hold usage rights on images you create.

Can I edit my cover after generation?

Yes. The WYSIWYG editor lets you change text, fonts, colors, positions, opacity, rotation and image filters at any time. Each edit regenerates the HD composite. You can also upload your own logo.

Metal T-Shirts

How does the t-shirt creator work?

Choose a genre, visual style (illustration, pencil sketch, comic or abstract), mood, and optionally a description. The AI generates an isolated graphic (no background) that you place on a t-shirt mockup in the editor. Adjust position, size, text, fonts and t-shirt color.

What t-shirt colors are available?

6 colors: black, white, dark charcoal, dark red, navy blue, army green. The design is placed on a silhouette mockup in your chosen color.

Is my first t-shirt free?

Yes. Same principle as covers: one free credit at signup with HD PNG export. PSD and illustration download are available with any paid pack.

Can I print the designs on real t-shirts?

Yes. PNG exports are high-resolution with transparent background, suitable for printing (screen printing, DTG, transfer). The PSD lets you finalize the design in your layout software before printing.

Editor & Image Filters

What filters are available?

The editor offers classic adjustments (grayscale, sepia, contrast, brightness, saturation, blur, inversion) plus advanced effects: hue shift, color overlay with opacity, and 7 blend modes (normal, multiply, screen, overlay, soft light, color dodge, color).

How does the color overlay work?

Pick a color and opacity. The color is blended with the image using the selected blend mode. For example, "Multiply" with red gives a warm tint, "Screen" with blue brightens in cool tones. Great for harmonizing an illustration with a visual theme.

Are filters applied to the final export?

Yes. All filters visible in the editor are applied to exported PNG and PSD files. What you see is what you get.

Tips for Better Results

How to get the best album covers?

Be specific in your description — "a skull wrapped in cosmic tentacles in a biomechanical style" will produce better results than "something dark".
Pick the right visual style — "Illustration" for detailed artwork, "Painting" for something more artistic, "Abstract" for geometric compositions.
Use the genre — the AI adapts visual references to the subgenre (e.g., Dan Seagrave for death metal, frozen forests for black metal).
Experiment with filters — a hue shift can radically transform an illustration. Try "Multiply" mode with a dark color for a more unified look.
Try multiple generations — the AI produces varied results. Your first generation isn't necessarily the best.

How to get the best t-shirt designs?

Favor the "Illustration" style — it produces the most impressive results best suited for textile printing.
Think "sticker" — the design should be an isolated graphic, not a scene. The AI is trained for this but a clear description helps.
High contrast — designs that work best in print have strong contrast. Use filters to adjust.
Test different moods — "Mystical" and "Cosmic" produce very different results for the same genre.

How to use fonts effectively?

The 44 fonts are organized in 10 categories: Classic Metal, Blackletter/Gothic, Display/Creative, Stencil/Military, Elegant Serif, Sans-serif Modern, Slab/Heavy, Script, Mono/Tech, Celtic/Medieval. For an authentic look:
Death/Black Metal — blackletter fonts like UnifrakturMaguntia or Pirata One
Thrash/Heavy Metal — classic fonts like Metal Mania or Metal Lord, or stencil fonts for a military edge
Progressive/Post — elegant serifs like Cinzel Decorative, or modern sans-serifs like Orbitron
Doom/Stoner — heavy slabs or creative display fonts like Bungee Shade or Rye

Account & Payment

Do I need an account?

The name generator works without an account (5 generations). For covers, t-shirts, lyrics, favorites and Creative Boost mode, a verified account is required.

How does payment work?

Payments are processed by Stripe, the global leader in online payments. We never store your banking information. You receive an email receipt after each purchase.

Do my credits expire?

No. Purchased credits have no expiration date. Use them whenever you want.

Are cover and t-shirt credits the same?

Yes. One credit can be used for an album cover OR a t-shirt design. It's a shared credit pool.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Go to your profile and click "Delete my account." All your data, creations and credits will be permanently removed. This action is irreversible.

Current Limitations

What are the generation limits?

• 20 name/lyric generations per day (verified account)
• The AI may occasionally produce inconsistent results — regenerate if needed
• Text on covers is not AI-generated — you place it yourself
• No history for anonymous users

Does the AI have content restrictions?

The tool is designed for metal aesthetics: skulls, bones, fire, occult symbolism, fictional horror are fully accepted. However, the following content is prohibited and automatically blocked: terrorism apology, targeted hate speech, child exploitation material. The Terms of Use detail these rules.

Can I use the tool on mobile?

The name generator works well on mobile. The cover and t-shirt editors are optimized for desktop — the mobile experience is limited (reduced control panel). For best results, use a computer.

Does this tool replace a real graphic designer?

No. Metal Name Generator is a mockup and creative exploration tool. If your budget allows, a professional illustrator (Dan Seagrave, Eliran Kantor, Paolo Girardi...) will always bring a unique touch. This tool is designed for independent artists who don't have that budget, or for quickly prototyping ideas before commissioning an artist.
